Purchasing Options (Available Now & Pre-Sale)

What is an "Available Now"/"Buy Now" Container?

These containers are available immediately. Once your payment is processed, we will release the container within 2-3 business days and delivery or pick up can be arranged. For example: If you purchase your container on Monday, payment will processed by Wednesday or Thursday and your container will be ready for pick up by Friday to Tuesday of the next week.

What is a U-Pick Container?

U-pick but for containers! When containers are selling out of the yard faster than they are arriving, clients can secure a specific container with a nominal deposit that can be paid by secure credit card or cash at the yard it will be landing in.

What is a "Pre-Sale" Container?

If you're not in a time crunch, this option allows you to secure a container at the lowest price. The containers are on the way with an ETA. Once they land, you will have 7 free storage days in which the container must be delivered or picked up. Yard storage fees accrue from day 8. If your project is not flexible, we suggest going with a "BUY NOW" container.

What is a "Next off the Stack" Container?

A next off the stack container is the most accessible container off a stack of containers. No photos are provided.

What is a "Choose Your Own" Container?

Also known as our U-Pick Containers. We have a select number of containers that you can choose from. We supply photos of the container and you can book a visit at the yard to see that specific container. These are usually PRE-SALE containers and these sell quickly.

Online Store

What type of containers do you sell?

We specialize in new and used 20ft and 40ft standard containers along with 40ft High Cube containers, and 20ft and 40ft Reefer Units. We sometimes carry specialized containers with side doors and doors at both ends.

What is your lead time for Pre-Sale containers?

Some containers are in the yard available to be purchased, while others are enroute (pre-sale). In either case, the status and estimated time of arrival will be listed on the website with each container for purchase so you can plan accordingly.

How much are your containers?

Containers are a commodity that is driven by steel and labour prices as well as supply and demand in the market. Due to the current market situation, availability and pricing can change without notice. Please contact us for current pricing. All quotes are on first come first serve basis.

How can I trust I will be getting the container I saw online?

We post our "Choose Your Own" container inventory online with photos and dates of when they were taken. If you purchase from this inventory, it will be the exact container you will be getting. We welcome you to book an appointment to see our containers in our physical yards. All the containers listed for sale on our website are ours. Payments are can be made online and are secure through credit card or via invoice paid direct to Supernova Containers Inc. If you are looking for a quote we ask for your phone number or email and your delivery postal or zip code. Additionally, you can speak with us on the phone or send us an email with any questions you may have.

Container Viewings

Where can I view your containers?

We post our inventory online. While this may allow other providers in the industry to view our containers, we provide this value added service to our clients. Our goal is to provide an efficient process to our customers so you can spend less time jumping through hoops trying to contact a real person in order to get details. We provide quotes based on the best market pricing. Purchasing a container with Supernova means spending less time trying to find the best containers at the best price and spending more time elsewhere.

Can I look at a container before I purchase it?

We take and post photos of our online inventory prior to their trip over seas (and sometimes in the yard when they land). The photos are representational of how they look when they land with perhaps a few additional cosmetic scuffs/dents. If you would like to see a container before buying it, most of the terminals we land containers in allow viewings. Please contact us to set up an appointment. Please note, we charge an unstacking fee per container which will be credited to the purchase of your container.

Payment Questions

What forms of payment do you take?

We accept purchases through our online website, direct banking (EFT, ACH (USD only) & wire) or payment on delivery.

Our online payment processing is secure and accepts all major credit cards including Visa, Mastercard and American Express. A processing fee will be added to any CAD purchase made online.

We will not ask you to wire money to a different company name.

The container industry is home to fraudulent activity where payments are taken for inventory that never shows up.  Please always click the "from" email to ensure that the address is from an @supernovacontainers.com email.

Pick Up & Delivery

Once I have purchased my container, how long do I have until it needs to leave the yard?

We allow one week to move purchased containers out of the storage yard.  If you need more time that is fine, but after one week we charge storage fees until it is picked up (unless otherwise arranged).

Do you deliver?

We enlist trusted, local delivery companies to deliver your container on tilt n load trailers. You are welcome to arrange your own delivery or pick up the container from the yard. Please contact us for a delivery quote.

How do I prepare the delivery site?

If you have purchased a 40ft container you will need approximately 110 lineal feet straight to where the container is needing to be placed. That allows the trailer to back into your desired position and offload while staying parallel.

Level ground is also ideal so that the doors open easily without binding.  If you look at the rubber gaskets above the container doors and they are aligned this likely means your container is level.  If they are out of line and you are struggling to open the doors, you probably have a leveling issue, which will cause the doors to be out of alignment and create binding.

Many clients put down two 6inch x6inch wood blocks that are 8-9ft long on each end.  The container floors are incredibly robust and the weight of the containers is designed to be carried by the four corners so it does not need to make contact in the middle.  You can bury and level your blocks (40ft a part for a 40ft, and 19' 10.5" apart for 20ft units) prior to delivery for the most ideal install.

Post Purchase

Do you have a warranty/guarentee on your container?

The pictures you see when purchasing a Supernova container from the website are the actual photos of your specific container taken prior to their final trip across the water.  On the one further voyage they make there can be the occasional bump, scuff or dent, but they generally arrive identical to their online pictures.

The containers are inspected by the terminal when they arrive here.  It is very rare they need repair, but if damage occurs they will be repaired prior to your pick up.

If you are picking up your container, you must inspect the container at the yard and call with any concerns.

If you are having your container delivered, when you accept the container from the transport company you will have 24 hours to photograph any damage that was missed in the inspection and submit a complaint.

If for any reason the container is turned away, you will be responsible for to and from delivery costs along with a restocking fee.

We will make every reasonable effort to remedy this for you and ensure you are happy with your purchase.

Special Order

Do you offer custom container options?

We do offer containers with side opening doors and double doors but our sweet spot is 20’ Standard and 40’ HC new and used containers since they are the most in demand for the freight companies we use to relocate them to North America.

We do not offer container modification services.

General Container Information

Why a shipping container?

Shipping containers offer un-parallel security and longevity.  A robust steel box with lock box and hidden lock make it a tough target for thieves.  They are also incredibly weather and rodent tight compared to a conventional storage solution.

Containers are made with Corten steel which is far superior to conventional mild steel in its corrosion resistant properties.  That is the reason these containers can last on the ocean in salt water and storms for up to 20 years.  When you set a container inland it will hardly change in its appearance over the years.  We have single use containers that are 10 years old that look almost identical to the day they arrived because of their anti-corrosive nature.

What is the difference between a new and used container?

A new container is a container that has made one trip on the ocean. A used container is between 10 to 15 years old and has had several trips at sea.

How do I care for and maintain my container?

Containers are low maintenance in nature, but there are some easy checks that will help ensure they last and don’t have issues.

Used containers can sometimes have thin areas that are not visible to the eye. Every year or two do a visible inspection to ensure you don’t have any pinholes beginning. This can be done by closing the door most of the way and then walking around looking for any sunlight or areas that appears to have dripping. Sweating and condensation can also be an issue with containers depending on your climate. Make sure to open the doors and let air in and out every so often to avoid moisture getting trapped. If condensation remains and issue you may need to add more ventilation which we can assist you with.
